Now that you’ve officially arranged the presents for everyone else, now is the time to sit back, relax and pamper yourself – and where better to start than your feet? Zappos is having a huge winter clearance event, so whatever you’re looking for — boots, sneakers, some cozy slippers — you can get it on sale.

Not sure where to start? We consulted New York-based podiatrist Dr. Polina Zaydenberg about her favorites from the sale. The physician is certified by the American Board of Multiple Specialties in Podiatry in the prevention and treatment of diabetic foot wounds and diabetic footwear.

Dr. Zaydenberg particularly praised the shoe’s propulsive toe box—in layman’s terms, the toe box is off the ground—which she says helps take pressure off the ball of the foot.

“I love these shoes!” shared a buyer. “They’re really comfortable for walking and light hiking and long days of walking when I travel. The soft/flexible fabric feels really nice and they’re supportive.”

Ask any podiatrist and they’ll likely tell you to stay away from pointy shoes. They create unnecessary foot pain and can cause neuroma, which is inflammation caused by getting your toes in too small a space.

Your doctor recommends opting for natural materials, such as leather, whenever possible, especially if you’re someone with a skin condition or sensitivity. The reason? They do not promote perspiration, as man-made materials and synthetics do.

These boots are mostly made of leather, except for the fabric details in the back. They’re easy to put on and take off, thanks to a hidden zipper closure on the side, and look great with leggings, jeans, and even a long skirt.

Enhanced traction on the outsole adds a rugged edge to the otherwise classic Chelsea boot.

Additionally, these ankle boots are made from a sturdy pebbled leather, which won’t show scuffs and scuffs easily.

Dr. Zaydenberg is a fan of these sneakers’ bungee cord, which can adjust to better fit those with wider feet. They’re not bad on the eyes either.

Plus, they fit just like a sock and even have a bumper at the toe, so whether you wear them the way they’re meant to be worn — for hiking — or just running errands around town, you’ll have extra security.

Says Dr. Zaydenberg: “They’re excellent for people with peripheral vascular disease and various toe deformities.”

“I’m an RN and work 12-hour shifts,” shared one buyer. “These shoes are great for those nights when I can’t stop running!”

“I needed a pair of shoes to walk our dog in Vermont…sometimes they’re on dirt roads, sometimes they’re in the woods, and sometimes they’re down at the lake!” one happy shared buyer. “These are comfortable, sturdy enough that you don’t feel the ground through the soles, and attractive, which matters!”
