The Raptors’ Chris Boucher had a major role in Christian Koloko’s brawl with the Heat

Toronto Raptors big man Christian Koloko made headlines earlier this season after a scuffle with the Miami Heat’s Caleb Martin led to the rookie’s ejection. On the latest episode of Hustle Play with Chris Boucher, the 22-year-old opened up about his incredulous reaction to the whole situation, who paid the fine, and how he got into the altercation in the first place.

When asked who was the fastest player to receive a ejection in NBA history, in terms of games played, Koloko quickly understood where the conversation was headed. Before having a chance to respond, Boucher explained that he was he which prepared the native of Cameroon for the fray.

“Let’s talk about it. He got kicked out, right,” Boucher explained. “Honestly, I really think the whole setup – I set it up for myself. It started in Brooklyn.

“I think [Nic Claxton] he had the ball – he crushes it, but he does a bit too much and puts his legs on it [Koloko], Right? So this is the game first. So I’m like, ‘Yo, never let anyone do this to you.’ I remember telling him that, how not to leave him – next time, how to push him or whatever.

“Next game, we go to Miami. Someone’s trying to mess with him again. But this time he’s not kidding. So he pushed and got into a crazy altercation. I’m like, good job, man.”

Since it was Boucher who instilled this “self-defense” mentality in Koloko’s psyche, he decided to pay his fine. Much to his chagrin, however, he was more expensive than he had anticipated. Koloko expressed great appreciation for his veteran teammate who picked up the bill.

Koloko was confused by her scuffle with Martin

When asked why he seemed so calm during his altercation with the Heat forward, Koloko admitted it was because he was confused as to why Martin was angry in the first place.

“Yes, I wasn’t standing,” Koloko explained. “And then, he came towards me. And I’m like, what is this guy trying to do? And then, I don’t know if he pushed me or something, and I just grabbed him because I was about to fall. And then he was trying to tackle me.”

The rookie’s stoic mindset prevented him from escalating the situation, as he revealed that he could have been far more reactionary.

“I could have done something,” Koloko said. “And then, right after, everyone jumped in. I was like, what’s going on? In my head, I was like, what’s going on?

“And I just threw my hands up. I’m not trying to do anything. Like, it’s my third game in the league.”
