Billie Eilish’s relationship with Neighborhood lead singer Jesse Rutherford is definitely still active.
“It’s really cool and I’m really excited about it and I’m really happy about it,” Eilish said Vanity Fair in a video interview released on Monday. “I managed to get…to a point in my life…where I was not only met by a person who I thought was the hottest fucking fucking in the world, but he kicked his ass! Are you kidding me? Can we just [get a] a round of applause for me?”
The “Happier Than Ever” singer initially confirmed her relationship with Rutherford in October, when they dressed up as a toddler and an old man for Halloween, appearing to comment on criticisms of their age difference. (She’s 20, he’s 31.) The following week, Eilish and Rutherford shared a Gucci blanket on the red carpet at a gala in Los Angeles.
“I’m really inspired by this person and, you know, he’s inspired by me,” Eilish said.
The interview, with the same questions, is what Eilish does with the magazine every year. For her sixth, she’s reviewed portions of what she’s done in the past and seen how his responses change over time. And, yes, as most people would, she cringeed at some of the answers she had given as a teenager.
After young Eilish explained that her bedroom was “like hell,” with red lights, the 2022 version mimicked her strangulation. “Bless my little heart though,” Eilish said.
The musician also answered pre-selected questions from fans, such as which year she grew the most.
“I’ve changed more from the beginning of this year so far than I have in the last, like, five years,” Eilish replied. “I mean, honestly.”
She said she headlined major festivals this year including Coachella and Glastonbury, completed a world tour and won an Oscar.
“I feel confident and I feel happy, and I feel like I’m in a good place in my life right now,” she said.
Although he joked that his successes were “nothing like that second year” of Time Capsule interviews, when he had won two Grammys, his documentary and the James Bond film There is no time to die for which he wrote the Oscar-winning theme, completed a book and a special for Amazon, and more.
She noted that, for next year, she’s working on a new album with her brother, Finneas O’Connell, and plans to continue her fitness transformation.
