Gordon Hayward out indefinitely with a fractured shoulder, which his wife said the Hornets made him play

Gordon Hayward sustaining a serious injury isn’t a shocking development at this point, but his wife going after the Charlotte Hornets for alleged health mismanagement might raise a few eyebrows.

The Hornets forward’s day began with the team ruling him out for Friday’s game against the Minnesota Timberwolves with what it called a shoulder contusion. The injury was apparently the same one that had caused him to miss eight games earlier this month, but he’s since returned and played three games.

The final game was tough, with Hayward posting seven points on 3-of-10 shooting with two rebounds, three assists and four turnovers.

Robyn Hayward, the player’s wife, decided to fight back by posting a screenshot of the Hornets’ official injury report with the bruise line and revealing what she claimed was the true story: Hayward had suffered a fractured left scalp, i.e. shoulder blade, and the Hornets let him play.

She seemed quite frustrated with the way the team had treated her husband, saying the team had failed to protect not only Gordon, but other players as well.

He actually has a fractured scapula.....that made him play the last game...that's why he couldn't lift his arm in the last game.....everyone who knows Gordon knows he has a goal and is winning and playing it right, he is the most sincere player/person you could ever find. If he won't play it's for something more than a bruise... I'll stop here and not go into the previous stuff. (Instagram)

Hayward didn’t stop there.

Just to clarify, since the team doesn’t say. It’s a shoulder fracture. That’s a broken bone. I stopped not protecting players. I was just talking to a mom of a young gamer and she was saying the same thing….

Around an hour later, The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported that Hayward will be sidelined indefinitely with a fractured left shoulder.

Regardless of the circumstances, a fractured shoulder is a brutal turn of events for a player who is very familiar with brutal turns of events.

Gordon Hayward of the Hornets suffers another injury

Since leaving the Utah Jazz in 2017, Hayward has suffered a broken shin, broken hand, sprained ankle, another sprained ankle, broken toe, foot injury requiring a cast and now that, plus a stay in concussion protocol.

There may not be a more snake-bitten player in the NBA, which is tough for both Hayward and the team that signed him to a four-year, $120 million deal in 2020.

In three seasons with the Hornets, Hayward played in 104 total games and averaged 17.5 points on 46.4% shooting (40.0% from deep), 5.1 rebounds and 3.9 assists . He’s still an effective player on the pitch, he just couldn’t stay on the pitch.
