Emily Blunt wasn’t dragging Tom Cruise.

The British actress, who appeared alongside Cruise in 2014 edge of tomorrow, he’s clarifying a story he recently told on the podcast Without intelligence about the action star telling her to “stop being so ****” on the set of the sci-fi action movie. She said the story, which she told because she thought it was funny, was “taken literally and absurdly out of context.”

“It’s ridiculous that this was presented as something that offended me,” Blunt said in a statement to E! News. “That wasn’t the case. I shared the story as lightheartedly as Tom intended it.”

She went on to call Cruise “a dear friend” who she adores and said he was “a real gem to me” when they worked together. As for calling her “ap****,” “It was said as a joke to make me laugh, which he did in a big way. And it’s still something we laugh about to this day.”

Blunt appeared on December 12th without intelligence, co-hosted by Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, and talked about the making of the film and the 85-pound “massive robot suit” he wore for the role. The The devil wears Prada the actress said when she first tried on the exo suit, she cried. Though she trained extensively before shooting the role, using weights, sprints, gymnastics and Israeli martial arts, she feared she might not be able to move—or act—in it.

“It was so heavy that the first time I put it on, I just started crying — in front of Tom,” Emily said. “And she didn’t know what to do. He just stared at Me and said, ‘I know. I know. I know.’ I was like, ‘Tom, I’m not sure how I’m going to get through this shoot’ and I started crying. ‘I just feel a little panicky about the whole shoot.’ And he literally just stared at me for a long time, not knowing what to do, and he said to me, ‘Come on, stop being so fucked up, okay?'”

Podcast co-hosts laughed at his recollection and said, “Good for Tom,” Blunt said, “And I laughed — and then we made it” as he got used to working in the suit. He called Cruise “brilliant”. in the movie.

Blunt also revealed in conversation that she sustained an injury on set, while doing an aerial stunt on wires that went bad. She injured her ribs and collarbone, injuries that persist to this day. (At the moment, Entertainment Weekly reported that she almost broke her nose, with an on-set doctor sticking two fingers into it to put the cartilage back into place, as well as dislocating her thumb and popping two ribs.)

There was talk of a Edge of tomorrow sequel, but Blunt, who said she read an “amazing script” for the project, didn’t look hopeful last year.

“Honestly, I think the movie is too expensive,” he told Howard Stern in 2021. “Yeah, I don’t know how we’re going to do it. I think it’s hard to align everyone’s schedules. [Director] Doug Liman would love that. Tom would love it. We all want to do that, but I think until we figure out what’s going on in the industry – honestly, I think we need to figure out what the next road map is for the kinds of movies people want to make.”
