In a statement released on Thursday following the article, Adidas said it was “at present unclear whether the allegations made in an anonymous letter are true. However, we take these allegations very seriously and have made the decision to launch an independent investigation into the matter immediately to respond to the allegations,” according to CNN and CNBC. USA TODAY reached out to Adidas.

The letter, obtained by Rolling Stone, says: “(Kanye), in past years, has exploded at the women in the room with hurtful comments and resorted to sexually disturbing references when providing design feedback. This type of response from a brand partner is something Adidas employees should never be subjected to, nor Adidas leadership should ever tolerate.”

The Rolling Stone article referenced incidents including playing pornographic videos to various staff members during meetings, showing an intimate photograph of Kim Kardashian in job interviews, and showing explicit videos and photos of Kardashian as well as her sex tape to Yeezy team members.

The loss of West’s lucrative partnership with Adidas alone eliminated the rapper from Forbes’ list of billionaires. Forbes said in October that without Adidas, the rapper is worth $400 million as the partnership represented nearly $1.5 billion of his net worth.

In 2018, she said slavery “felt like a choice.” In October, she debuted hoodies with “White Lives Matter” written in large letters at her Yzy Paris Fashion Week show (and she wore it again a few days later at her daughter’s basketball game). ). A few days later, she falsely claimed that George Floyd died of a fentanyl overdose, rather than being killed by a police officer.

The rapper opened up about being diagnosed with bipolar disorder, which mental health experts have noted may explain why he can make inflammatory comments, but it doesn’t excuse them.
